Maria Sikoutris Di lorio

Maria Sikoutris Di Iorio, MA, Ed.S., MTF, LPC is a licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist, graduate of Seton Hall University with a Post Master's as an Educational Specialist and Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy.

 

Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio has been counseling with individuals, families, children and couples for over three decades.  She is a member of the National Council of Self Esteem, New Jersey Counseling Association, Marriage & Family.

She has been certified in Behavioral Systems Theory from the Multicultural Family Institute studying under the direction of Dr. Monica McGoldrick and a team of licensed professionals. Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio has additional training with The Georgetown Family Center in Washington, DC, and The Princeton Family Center, Princeton, NJ for further study in family systems and in Bowen Family Systems Theory.  Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio also teaches at the Rutgers School of Social Work.

 

Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio’s private practice in Scotch Plains is available to clients day, evening and weekend hours. In addition, she had been treating individuals, families and children in The Mount Carmel Guild Behavioral Health Care System intensive out-patient department in Newark, New Jersey. She has extensive experience in working with individuals with addictions and has over four years of experience counseling halfway house prisoners in Talbot Hall and Delaney Hall correctional centers. Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio specializes in working with couples dealing with issues of conflict and specializes in marriage and family therapy. She has been helping couples improve communication, resolve conflict and deal with issues of infidelity. Oftentimes she will meet with both members individually (maintaining confidentiality) and as a couple.  She has extensive experience in treating the entire family in order to assess the role of each family member and will make the proper recommendations. Ms Sikoutris Di Iorio has a special interest in working with couples affected by infidelity and is currently studying with Ms. Esther Perel, who is recognized as one of today's most insightful voices on personal relationships. In addition, Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio is in supervision with Esther Perel, Michele Scheinkman, and Suzanne Iasenza. Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio is currently participating in the Master Series Class on Couples Therapy, sponsored by Therapy Training in Boston. 

 

In addition, Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio has presented numerous workshops for the Elizabeth Court House on parents experiencing divorce (protecting the children), parenting workshops, and building self esteem. Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio has extensive experience working with the Juvenile Conference Committee and was Court Appointed Advocate for Union County interacting with Division of Youth and Family Services, Catholic Charities and foster care. Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio works with families affected by separation and divorce and meets with the entire family. She works with children in helping them process and adjust to the new family unit.

 

She is the past Owner and Director of The Westfield Diet Plan. A program that believes it’s not what you are eating, but rather what is eating you. She focuses on building women’s self-esteem and self-image and counsels on food addictions/eating disorders.

 

As a group facilitator, she has delivered programs such as: self esteem, assertiveness, stress management, 12 step programs, addictions and recovery, parenting workshops, anger management, establishing healthy boundaries, improving communication, resolving conflicts and processing the pain and betrayal of infidelity. She has also appeared as a guest speaker on Comcast Television promoting women’s self esteem issues.

 

Ms. Sikoutris Di Iorio is married, lives in Westfield and has three adult children. She is currently pursuing post-graduate certification in the area of sex therapy at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, New York City,  Principles & Practices of Sex Therapy with Dr. Ian Kerner.
